lyrics

My parents grew up in the Chi, that ain't where they raised me;

At the age of three they uprooted and displaced me.

Put me inside a crate with the intent to isolate me;

And peers came later
So nobody could relate to me.

Hated me being different,
Hated me being smart;

Hated how I would put the hard emphasis on my r's.

Everybody had gotten a taste of the city
Genuinely;

I couldn't get with it so I tried to play the part.

Oh and I sucked at basketball (no dub)
Nothing but sweatsuits,

And plain black hoodies adorning my legs and my arms.

My father would always dress me
...He and my mother;

born in the summers of polka dot dresses and hip huggers.

...Permanently out of touch
And out of the culture;

I
Struggle in the heat of a tundra.

Filled with the cold stares of the eyes of the many who had turned into vultures;

Friends and foes were interchangeable
when I was younger.

...I was aware of the grass that the snakes were under;

One of em was a cousin,
another one was a brother.

All who grew in the city cahooted with one another;

I wasn't part of the joke
Companionship was a hoax.

I closed myself off
Always putting my guard up;

Mouth full of bricks
Intention of putting walls up.

But i knew the only thing to truly make a difference;

Was trying to build bridges
From Kenwood to Parker.

...Kenwood to Parker
Whether the scenery

Is dissonant with dogs barking
Or birds chirping

Or sirens ablaze
And I still harken

Keep my ears to the voices
Of plenty of youth afar

It may not even matter
A black sheep from the start

Or white evidently pigment does not intelligence mark

But such is popular opinion

I crane my neck with the wind

the sparkling image of
The Chi's young daughter hits

I hold the beat tight in the folds of my embrace

Until it dies in heat deliver the carcass
To the doorstep of Venus

Knocking on heaven's door amidst Serena

Sailing moons a many minutes have I seen

How are you living Kydd

Having broken out of my reverie
I've seen the unforeseen

Lean in close to the screen

Ladies and gentlemen lemme digest the flesh and meat upon the scene

And chew the fat I fade the world to black and grab an ipecac I cough, collapse,

Regurgitate the nature of the
space and places which I've been

I mean
As mentioned

The daughter of Chicago
Me I stand before her
Had the name of Kenwood Parker
How ironic

Attended both schools

So those among her
peers gave her the moniker

Through the tinted glass

A cartoon constructed nicknamed upon the faces of her past

I was the unintended class clown to her hall monitor

Gotta be fate that we met
And she saw us

Me and three kids doggin me
Kiddies tryna be tough

I couldn't hang with

none of em
said that I wasn't Chicago enough

The kiddie was huff

...And apparently neither was she
Strange indeed
Lucky me

We were the two of a kind like synchronizing minds and

Bodies two sides of the same sort of a query or a quandary

Does your identity come from roots

Or does it originate from the place where
your mind your soul and your heart be?

So where is mine?
2009.

At the drop of 8th grade she dipped

She entered and left me so quick
And where was I

I was living alone in the world channeling the sum of my grievances

But instead of crying contrarily I was prompted to write

Met her at the Hyde Park talking with my grandfather

Clocks of the past dictated how we've changed

She was referred to by place and by upbringing

But never once did I hear her get addressed by name

But if I see it fit we change that now

Grab all of your things we're leaving your house

We're taking the blue line no matter what it may cost you

Bet'cha didn't know that you're boy became an author

Documenting the past and future all it's crossings

Documenting all of the insecurities I dealt with

Documenting the pain and suffering you got in

Documenting the sting of rejection when I felt it

And that rejection came from you the day I

Wanted to be buddy buddy you but you said it wasn't cool.

Had me looking like a fool

Around that time you moved to a different school

And I had lost a friend

But then again when I had thought I lost a friend and gained a--

[CAVEMAN]
I gained a muse!
Yeah yeah!
Yeah yeah!

When I talk of the past, I speak in lucid tandems
memory as my anthem.

Oh, Kenwood Parker!

'Cause I tell you a time when legacy was a name
only future to gain, no games to play!

Oh, Kenwood Parker!

Don't lock yourself, no
Don't lock yourself, no
Just take my hand
Let us dance into infinity

It seemed like an eon of ions collected makin' your eyes shine
Penetratin' the moonlight deep inside your mind's eye

So take my body and intertwine your sight and your dreams
To realize they're both me.

The myopicity in your sight
within the darkness of your spine
Is like two peas in a pod
Two spliffs in a pot
A stone's throw from a bowl of kush
Cushioning my crash landing Bandicoot
A chance to take my hand and dance
From Kenwood to Parker
Hazel Crest to Gardner
Dear Miss Parker, oh, dear Miss Parker
Our lives have both changed but yet they seem the same
Oh,dear Miss Parker, dear Miss Parker

I bid thee adieu till the next time you change...
I bid thee adieu till the next time you change swear to God!
